The waiver was granted as the reporter is our own Gessian Zaobao Cub Reporter.' 2012 Gan Eng Seng School Promotion Ceremony at GESS Arena (Friday, 20 Apr 2012)On Friday, 20 April 2012, we celebrated with our Gessians as we affirm all our promoted teachers for continuing their good performance and continued service. Our GESS Band also paid a tribute to the promoted teachers. ONWARD! Our PTA Chairman’s Appointment as Ambassador for the Fathers@Schools Programme held at PLMGS (Saturday, 21 Apr 2012)Our PTA Chairman Mr. Dennis Chan was among the 1st batch of 23 active volunteers appointed as Ambassadors of the Fathers@Schools programme by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, MOE, Mr Hawazi Daipi. Mr Chan and son Chan Wei Yao (Sec 2G) also shared with the audience the benefits of having an involved father.
Chan Wei Yao(Sec 2G)told the audience that he was proud of his father's involvement in his school. Mr Dennis Chan, President, GESS PTA & Ambassador for the Fathers@Schools Programme, his son Wei Yao (Sec 2G) & VP at the Appointment & Sharing Ceremony Interviewed by CNA at the Appointment Ceremony, Mr Dennis Chan said: "By joining the programme Fathers@Schools, you get to understand what the school is doing and teaching now. We understand them better, and we are able to communicate better, in more or less the same kind of lingo with the school." GESS Wins Top 3 prizes of the DadsforLife Point, Click, Connect! Dads and Kids ContestEncouraged by their teachers to join 'Point, Click, Connect! Dads and Kids!' contest, 2 Gessians, Lim Ler (Sec 2E) and Seow Lay Kun (Sec 5A) each won a $250 voucher in the 'Dad Suit Up' category. The prize, sponsored by TANGS Wardrobe Men, came with the service of a Personal Shopper to help the two dads put together new outfits. Boasting a strong Fathers@Schools programme and the presence of such active supporters, GESS also emerged the Fathers@Schools Group category Winner, thanks to the efforts of teacher Mr Emerson Foo and his daughter. They won for the school an IRTLab worth $5000, which enables multiple modes of instruction and collaboration, such as switching between lecture, group facilitation, cooperative learning and assessment, or individual and group learning from three to 12 members, with versatile technology sharing options Please click the dadsforlife website for more details: Here Seow Lay Kun (Sec 5A) accompanied her Dad, Mr Seow Choo Gek to pick out some shirts and trousers with the TANGS $250 prize in the Dad Suit Up category. Though Lim Ler (Sec 2E) had won the TANGS $250 shopping voucher prize for his dad Mr Lim Eng Sing, he was in for a treat as well because they regularly swap clothes with one another. GESS, Winner of the Inaugural 'Redesign Your Library' competition (Friday, 20 Apr 2012)Congratulations to our Student Librarians for winning the inaugural nation-wide 'Redesign Your Library' competition. They took the opportunity to design a library that would foster community spirit and sharing, and won $30,000 from Civica Library & Learning, to turn their vision into reality. On Friday, 20 Apr 2012, Guest of Honour Deputy Director-General of Education (Curriculum) Mr Wong Siew Hoong presented the Student Librarians with the cheque at Inter-Continental Hotel, immediately after the result announcement . Deputy DGE said: 'Students being able to contribute their ideas and redesign their library is a very powerful extension of the student voice.' Onward Gessians!

Achievement in National Street Soccer League 2011Our soccer team (comprising Ali, Shalihin, Hariz, Karthigesan and Guo En) is one of the four schools that qualified for the grand finals of the National Street Soccer League (NSSL) 2011 on Sunday, 18 Sep 11. After battling hard and winning two key matches, they got the ticket to play in the evening final where the Prime Minister is the guest of honour. Our boys are determined to repeat the success of the 2007 team and have our school name again engraved on the Lee Hsien Loong Challenge Trophy. Despite playing to the best of their abilities, they lost to a stronger team from Tampines Secondary School. For the brilliant efforts, they won $750 and runner-up trophies.We are sure that the memories of this tournament will add on to their quality school experiences in GESS. Congratulations!
Outstanding All-Round Performance : Lee Kuan Yew All-Round Excellence Award Winners from GESS!Benjamin Low Wei Fu and Kelin Leong Hui Yi have been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew All-Round Excellence Award for 2011. They were presented with the award by our Minister at the Special Awards Presentation Ceremony on 19 August 2011. The Lee Kuan Yew All-Round Excellence Award 2011 is a pinnacle national award that recognises well-rounded students who have excelled in both academic and non-academic spheres, and who exemplify the qualities articulated in the nation’s desired outcomes of education. Congratulations to both students! Winning of Outstanding Project Award for Scientific Thinking ProgramEight of our Secondary 2 students, namely Lai Yong Hao Melvin (2E), Low Li Jun (2G), Ng Jing Lin Jesslyn (2G), Tan Hui Xin (2G), Lee Yun Fai (2F), Loh Jeremy Wen Jun (2F), Seng Yi Wei, Alan (2F) and Yap Kian Seng (2F) took part in the Scientific Thinking Program organised by Republic Polytechnic. We are proud to announce that one team of students (Lai Yong Hao Melvin, Low Li Jun, Ng Jing Lin Jesslyn and Tan Hui Xin) won the Outstanding Project Award amongst five Secondary schools in Singapore. Congratulations to the Winning Group!!
2011 Science International Competitions and Assessments for SchoolsWong Jin Gene (3D) and Victor Chng Kian Hwee (3E) attained a High Distinction in the 2011 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools Science organised by the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Their scores were in the top 1 percent of Secondary 3 participants in Singapore. Congratulations to Jin Gene and Victor and Onward Gessians! Congratulations to both students! 10th World Dragon Boat Championship in Tampa, Florida - Youth TeamOur two Gessians, Kai Kin (4D) and Syafiq (4C), along with the rest of the Singapore Youth Team squad, have brought glory to our school and a perfect gift for our country's 46th birthday by winning 2 bronze (2000m and 500m), 1 silver (1000m) and 1 gold (200m) medals in the junior category which also boasted teams like Germany, Canada, Great Britain and the United States.
